Australia Murray River Shiraz Mataro

The Region
Australia’s Murray Darling region is located inland along the upper Murray River, overlapping northern Victoria and southern New South Wales. This region experiences warm to hot days, noticeably cooler nights, and plenty of sunshine, where the grapes soak up the sun and ripen fully every year. The Murray River provides the much needed irrigation. The grower, Qualia, has harvested the Shiraz from a few different sites, where sand overlies limestone bedrock, and each site provides unique characteristics and complexities. The Mataro was harvested from a rich clay loam and shale soil vineyard owned by Andrew Peace Wines in Swan Hill, Victoria, along the southern banks of the Murray River.

The Wine
Body: 5, Acidity: 0.65 g/100 mL, Wine type: Robust red

Shiraz provides rich ripe fruit flavours to this wine, along with soft velvety tannins and deep brooding
colour. Mataro, known as Mourvedre in many parts of the world, provides body, structure, firm tannins and earthy, spicy notes. This big, bold, beautiful wine will show soft tannins and rich flavours of jammy black fruits, sweet spice and chocolate. The wine should drink well within 4 months of bottling and cellar for up to 2 years.

The Food
This rich red would complement marinated red meats; saucy barbecued ribs; pulled pork on a bun; beef brisket; rich winter stews; meat pies; fully dressed burgers; grilled steak with barbecue sauce; full-flavoured aged Gouda.

California North Coast Grand Red

The Region
California’s North Coast consists of some of the most well-known and respected wine growing regions, including Napa Valley and Sonoma, the source of the grapes for this exceptional wine. The climate is quite variable from valley to valley, but is often classified as Mediterranean. Stags Leap District is located well to the south and on the eastern side of Napa Valley; the grower, Agrajanian, manages this rocky western sloped vineyard where Merlot is the celebrated grape variety.

The Wine
Body: 5, Acidity: 0.60 g/100 mL, Wine type: Robust red

Cabernet Sauvignon is the backbone of this wine, providing great structure, body and depth of colour. Merlot provides a silky mouth-feel, and Shiraz intensifies the rich fruit character. This full-bodied wine has velvety tannins and a rich mouth-feel with flavours of red and black berries, cherry, mocha, vanilla, Chai spice, chocolate and oak. Made with a 2.6 L Super Pack which includes over14 lbs. of crushed grapes. The wine should drink well within 3 to 4 months of bottling and cellar for up to 2 years.

The Food
This rich red would complement wild game meats; marinated leg of lamb; beef brisket; pepper steaks; bacon wrapped filet mignon; New York steak with blue cheese butter; rich lentil dishes; hard aged cheeses such as Cheddar and Manchego.

France Melange a Trois

The Region
Languedoc, located in central southern France, is a predominately red wine producing appellation, with grape growing experience dating back to around 125 BC. The Languedoc experiences a Mediterranean climate (warm, dry, sunny summers), with near drought conditions, and steady winds which bring cool air from the mountains. These conditions, along with the rich clay soils found in the Herault and Aude wine growing regions within Languedoc, provide excellent growing conditions for red varietals.

The Wine
Body: 4, Acidity: 0.57 g/100 mL, Wine type: Smooth Red

This blend consists of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Merlot is the soft, charming varietal that takes the leading role in this wine, while Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot provide the structure, backbone, body and depth of colour. This classic Bordeaux-style, medium to full-bodied wine has soft tannins and aromas and flavours of red and black berries, plum, tobacco, dried herbs, leather, spice and oak. The wine should drink well within 3 to 4 months of bottling and cellar for up to 2 years.

The Food
This classic blend would complement medium-rare to rare grilled red meats; beef tenderloin; lamb chops; roast beef; aged Canadian cheddar; prime rib roast; grilled mushrooms; steak fajitas.

Italy Sangiovese Cabernet Sauvignon

The Region
Emilia Romagna, located in north central Italy, lies between the River Po to the north and the Apennine Mountains to the south. This is one of the most fertile and productive regions in Italy. The warm sunny days are tempered by the Adriatic Sea which assists in balancing the ripe fruit flavours and the acidity of the grapes. The grapes are sourced from a single vineyard called The Ghiardello Vineyard which has nutrient rich clay soils that provide depth and complexity of flavours.

The Wine
Body: 5, Acidity: 0.59 g/100 mL, Wine Type: Robust Red

The dominant grape in the blend is one of Italy’s most famous, Sangiovese, and is supported by the international varietal, Cabernet Sauvignon. Sangiovese provides wonderful red berry and licorice notes with soft tannins and food-friendly acidity, while Cabernet Sauvignon, offers ripe black fruits such as blackberry and cassis, plus a firm backbone of tannin and deep colour. Made with a 2.6 L Super Pack which includes over 14 lbs. of crushed grapes. The wine should drink well within 3 to 4 months of bottling and cellar for up to 2 years.

The Food
This wonderful red would complement simply prepared grilled red meats; meat or mushroom based lasagna; cold beef wraps; prime rib; pepperoni and mushroom pizza; beef brisket; rich bean stew.

Italy Three Vineyards

The Region
This wine is a blend of grapes from three vineyards from three great wine regions in Italy. Emilia Romagna, where the grapes are sourced from the Ghiardello Vineyard , Sicily, where the grapes are sourced from the Terra di Salemi Vineyard and Trentino, (located in northern Italy) where the grapes come from the Armani Vineyard.

The Wine
Body: 3, Acidity: 0.60 g/100 mL, Wine type: Fruity White

White blends are becoming very trendy as people are looking for exciting new wines. Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Riesling and Gewurztraminer are carefully blended together to allow each of the varietals to shine through. This refreshing, crisp, medium-bodied white wine has clean pure fruit aromas and flavours of citrus, pear, apple, tropical fruit and just a touch of floral. Drink young and fresh.

The Food
The perfect sipping white for any occasion; or serve with creamy mild cheeses; grilled or poached fillet of fresh-water fish; roasted chicken; crab, scallops, shrimp or mussels; turkey or chicken wraps; grilled pork chops.
